Misc:
What this is: This is an intermediate level class for rifle shooters. This is NOT a beginner class for new centerfire rifle owners. This is a class for shooters who have some experience with their rifles but who may lack confidence at longer distances. We will not spend a lot of time on the basics as we do at one of our Project Appleseed 25 meter events.
What to bring: Eye and ear protection, shooting mat, centerfire rifle capable of firing accurately to 400 yards, preferably zeroed at 25 yards. Also, 300 rounds of ammunition of a similar kind, i.e., all 147 grain 30-06 loaded to same specs, or something of that nature. Notebook and writing instruments. Teachable attitude, most important. It may still be hot on these dates so bring something to drink, sunscreen and a popup shelter if you have one. Weather permitting, will be walking between firing lines so only plan on bringing what you can carry between lines. i.e., rifle, ammo, mat, eyes/ears, etc..
Other: We will post a template of range data card, to copy and bring. We suggest you make a number of copies of this. We fill focus extensively on range estimation and shooting sighter groups every 100 yards out to 500 yards. The goal is to make sure you leave with precise data about where your shots hit at these distances and establish your rifle’s BSZ (Battle Sight Zero). We will provide at least one opportunity to shoot the full-size AQT out to 400 yards and to qualify at Actual Distance to give you a chance to earn the coveted Project Appleseed LD rocker or tab. You may shoot from any position or use any support you choose for sighters at all distances. However when we shoot the KD qualifying round you must shoot like a Rifleman, unsupported, in prone, sitting or kneeling and standing. Prior attendance at a Project Appleseed event will greatly improve your chances at success of success.
We will also have some fun with a “TOP SHOT Appleseed” contest where you may test your range estimation and shooting skills and possibly earn the very valuable (actually about $20) trophy.
Two weeks before the event we will send out links to several online sites where you can plug in your rifle data to create trajectory charts of where your rounds should impact the target at 100-500 yards. You will be asked to bring your chart with you to the event where we will review them in the classroom portion of the event.
This is a great opportunity to bring more than one centerfire rifle and hopefully to get come-ups from 100 to 400 yards, and possibly beyond.
Instructors wishing to attend this event, please wait until 2 weeks out to register if spots are available on the line after non-instructors have registered.
